Copyright & Licensing

Every photograph on this website was shot and edited by Mason Stretch. This page explains who owns the images, what clients may do with them, and how to licence work for commercial use.

Last updated: 6 September 2026Legal Version 1.1 · Effective 30 August 2026

1.Ownership of images

All photographs, edits, video and written content on shotbymason.com are © Shot By Mason (Mason Stretch) and are protected by the Copyright Act of South Africa and international copyright law.

Copyright always remains with the photographer. Booking a shoot grants you a licence to use the images. It does not transfer ownership.

2.What clients may do

  • Use the delivered images on personal social media, websites and printed keepsakes.
  • Share the gallery link with family, friends, team members or colleagues.
  • Print the images for personal or internal use at any size.
  • Credit @Mason.photo when posting publicly: always appreciated, and required for editorial use.

3.What clients may not do

  • Re-edit, crop out watermarks, apply filters or alter the colour grade of delivered files.
  • Sell, sub-licence or transfer the images to another business or stock library.
  • Use personal-licence images in paid advertising, sponsorships or brand campaigns.
  • Claim authorship of the images or remove the copyright metadata.

4.Commercial licensing

Brands, airlines, teams, publications and agencies require a commercial licence. Licences are quoted per project based on where the images will run, for how long and in which territories.

Typical licence types

  • Editorial: magazines, news articles and event coverage, with credit.
  • Social & digital: brand social channels and websites, fixed term.
  • Advertising: paid campaigns, print, out-of-home and video, scoped per campaign.
  • Exclusive: image withheld from other uses for an agreed period.

For a licence, email media@shotbymason.com with the images, intended use and duration.

5.Portfolio and promotional use

Unless we agree otherwise in writing before the shoot, Shot By Mason may display images from your shoot in the portfolio, on Instagram, in competition entries and in promotional material. If a shoot is confidential or embargoed, tell us beforehand and it stays private.

6.Third-party content

Partner logos and brand marks shown on this site remain the property of their owners and are used with permission to identify a working relationship. Only Mason's own photography appears in the portfolio. No stock and no generated imagery.

7.Unauthorised use and takedowns

Using an image without a licence is copyright infringement. Where unauthorised use is found, we may request immediate removal and invoice a licence fee for the period of use.

To report infringement or request a takedown, email media@shotbymason.com with links and details.

8.Asking permission

Spotters, enthusiasts and aviation pages are welcome to ask: many requests are granted for free with a credit and a link back. Just email media@shotbymason.com before posting.
